Faris House History
The Faris House has a totally different history than any of the other Bruce Spruce Ranch cabins. The property that the Faris House sits on was all horse pasture and all part of Bruce Spruce Ranch until the Hingers bought the Ranch from Charles G Faris in 1966. At that time Chuck and Ruth Faris retained three and one half acres from the sale of Bruce Spruce Ranch on which to build their own summer home.
This solid log structure was started in 1967 and was completed about two years later. At least it was livable, and, as time and energy allowed, it was completed. This is a large log home with five bedrooms, a very large kitchen and living room and had two bathrooms at the time. Chuck’s wife Ruth and daughter Kay both preceded Chuck in death, and in 1988 Chuck passed on at the age of 86.
The Faris House, which was not named at the time, then went to Chuck’s next of kin and for two years their family held possession of the property. Then, in 1990-91, the family finally agreed to sell the property to the Hinger family to be rejoined to the Bruce Spruce Ranch property. At that time the cabin was named Faris House, of course, in honor of the Faris family. Also, at that time, a third bathroom was added along with other modifications, and the Faris House became the large group facility for the Ranch and has been used as such to this day.
The Faris House is open in the summer and fall. It has lots of room around it for horseshoes, cornhole, tether ball, volleyball, a large campfire area and many picnic tables for outside eating.
