Railroads and Train Rides

There are three railroads within a two hour drive from us.

Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is an hour and a half from us.

Durango Silverton railroadThe Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (D&SNGRR) is history made up of original equipment, maintained to perfection, operated and kept up by people today using skills long lost to ordinary endeavors. Our history protects and preserves the very human character that made our country great. On our railroad, you will experience Colorado at its best…wildlife, waterfalls, majestic peaks, all from the view of an 1880s train. You will see places you can get to only by foot or train.

You will experience first-hand why the D&SNGRR was voted “One of the World’s Top Ten Most Exciting Train Rides” by the Society of American Travel Writers in 2009. The most important part of our mission is you. It is to give you an experience you will never forget. Riding the D&SNGRR you are now a part of history. You are now an 1882 railroader. Welcome Aboard!

Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad

The Cumbres and Toltec train is based out of Chama. It is about an hour from us with several options.

Cumbres Toltec railroadExperience the excitement of rugged, narrow gauge, coal-fired, steam powered mountain railroading on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. You will traverse 64 miles of unparalleled scenery as you climb from Antonito or Chama to the dining hall at Osier and on to your final terminal. Lunch is included of course.

You will sense the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains as your train is handled by sure-footed locomotives and able crews through tunnels, above deep gorges and over Cumbres Pass. This unique section of mountain railroad is owned by the states of New Mexico and Colorado and was designated a National Historic Landmark in October of 2012. It is truly a memorable experience not to be missed.

Rio Grande Scenic Railroad

The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad is about 2 hours away.
